Fun facts
Cheers premiered in 1982 and almost got canceled due to low ratings—finishing 74th out of 77 shows its first season! But it quickly gained a devoted fanbase. The show is set in a bar “where everybody knows your name”, and the theme song became a well-loved earworm.
Sam Malone, played by Ted Danson, was originally written as a retired football player, but was changed to a former baseball pitcher. The bar’s layout was inspired by a real Boston pub, the Bull & Finch.
Over 11 seasons, Cheers won 28 Emmy Awards and helped launch spin-offs, including the hugely successful Frasier
