Fun facts
Before Happy Days became a TV classic, it started as a segment on the anthology series Love, American Style. The segment, titled Love and the Happy Days, featuring Ron Howard as Richie Cunningham, aired in 1972. This episode caught the eye of producers and eventually led to the creation of Happy Days in 1974.
Interestingly, the original pilot was passed over by networks until the success of the George Lucas movie American Graffiti, also starring Ron Howard (along with Laverne and Shirley’s Cindy Williams and future Star Wars star Harrison Ford), rekindled their interest.
