Farewell, Tony Roberts
Best known as the best friend in Woody Allen's early films, he was a versatile and much-loved performer
Tony Roberts, the stage and screen actor best known for his roles in Woody Allen films including Annie Hall, Hannah and her Sisters and Play It Again, Sam, died at his home in Manhattan on February 7, 2025. He was 85.
Roberts was a versatile performer who excelled in both comedies and dramas. On Broadway, he starred in productions of Barefoot in the Park, Sugar, Cabaret, Xanadu and Victor/Victoria, earning two Tony Award nominations.
In addition to his work with Allen, where he usually played the best friend of Allen’s character, Roberts appeared in the films Serpico and The Taking of Pelham 123 and had a recurring role in the 1984 television series The Four Seasons.

Roberts, who died from lung cancer, was a beloved figure in the entertainment industry, known for his wit, charm and talent. He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Barley.
