Fun facts
Superheroes have been saving the day in comics, films and TV shows for decades. And they come with some pretty fascinatingbackstories. Did you know Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938, and his creators originally envisioned him as a villain?
Batman, debuting in 1939, was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s sketches of a flying machine and pulp detectives of the era.
Spider-Man almost didn’t get published because Marvel thought readers wouldn’t like a teen hero with “creepy” powers, but he went on to become one of their most successful characters.
Wonder Woman’s golden lasso was inspired by her creator’s interest in truth-telling devices, and she was one of the first female superheroes in mainstream comics.
And, briefly:
The Hulk was originally grey, but printing issues turned him green.
Squirrel Girl has defeated both Thanos and Doctor Doom.
Who’s faster: Superman or The Flash? Well, the jury’s out on that one, because they’ve raced several times with different outcomes.
