A few facts
Little Shop of Horrors creators Alan Menken and Howard Ashman were a legendary songwriting duo whose collaboration redefined the Disney musical. Ashman’s sharp, witty lyrics paired perfectly with Menken’s catchy, emotional melodies. Together, they created beloved scores for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, helping spark the so-called “Disney Renaissance” of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Ashman, who died in 1991, was known for infusing Broadway-style storytelling into animated films, while Menken’s versatile compositions brought their work to life. Their partnership left a lasting impact on musical theatre and animation, blending heart, humour, and unforgettable songs that continue to resonate with audiences.
